HELLO BENNI, LET’S START WITH HOW DID YOU GET YOUR JOB IN GAMES?
Hello! I started with some work experience at 2 different studios for about 6 months. I had to use job seeker’s allowance to pay for my transport costs. It was hard getting the job centre to understand that I was working towards getting a real job.
WHAT DO YOU DO DAY-TO-DAY?
My job is a combination between organisation and implementation. Typically I will attend or lead meetings in which we discuss the development of the game. I’m also responsible for building parts on the game in engine, and then reviewing them with my peers. A large part of the job involves collaborating with the different departments on features.
WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
It requires a lot of thought. Every day and every project requires you to problem solve, and when it works out it feels great.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ASPIRING TO BE LEAD GAME DESIGNER?
Respect the other disciplines. Take inspiration from everywhere. Constraints breed creativity.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT BALLISTIC MOON?
Sounds cheesy, but the people. I work with a lot of talented and approachable humans, and Ballistic Moon has fair share of characters.
ANY FUN FACTS OR HOBBIES?
I love to cook. Sometimes I’m compelled to cook intricate dishes, even if I’ve returned home late or am very tired. I watch YouTube videos about food relentlessly.
THANKS BENNI!
